Welcome Back

I hope you have all had a great half term break and are ready for a 9 week term!

Our Topic this term is Journeys. The children will be looking at different journeys. The children will be looking at religious journeys i.e. pilgrimages, migration and vehicles we use for journeys.

English

During this term the children will be looking at a range of different non-fiction texts and they will be writing their own class non-fiction book.  They will also be writing explanation texts and letters.

The children will continue to develop their phonic skills with daily phonic and GPS sessions. The children will also develop their reading skills through weekly guided reasoning sessions. The childrne will be challengeed to talk about the books and make inference based on what they have read.

Mathematics
In Maths the children will be looking at Addition and Subtraction. They will also be covering Multiplication this term.

The year 1 children will be working with numbers to 50 and will be learning to become confident and secure in adding and subtracting numbers to 50.

The year 2's will be looking at written methods for addition and subtraction.

Both year groups will become confident in adding and subtracting numbers both practically and written.

The aim is for the children to use mathematical language in their reasoning and problem solving tasks.

I aim to encourage the children to use the role play inside the classroom.

Homework
Homework will be given out on a Friday to be bought back into school on a Wednesday. These will consist of spellings and Maths activities, which consolidate the weeks work. Please ensure that your child completes the work and gets the homework back on time.

Spelling tests will take place on a Friday. Spelling sheets must be bought back into school on a Friday.

TT Rockstar's

The Year 2 children are expected to practice their 2, 5 and 10 timetables on TT Rockstar's. All of the year 2 children were provided with their log ins at the beginning of the academic year.

Reading at Home

It is an expectation the children read 4 times a week at home.

Please complete your child’s reading journal if they have read at home.

A signature is needed from an adult to show this has been done.

Please also use the Reading Journals to communicate with me - I will read them daily and I am happy to help in anyway.

I aim to make the children’s KS1 journey enjoyable and fun.

Thank you for your continued support. I am very excited and look forward to the new term.
