Mrs Chafer's Class

Welcome to Early Years Foundation Stage 2019-20

Welcome everyone to Mrs Chafer's class page. On here we will post photos of your children taking part in activities and also information about the early years curriculum that your child is following.

This year we have 15 children who all started in September and together we have decided on a new class name - The Tigers! The children are now settled in to the school routine and are enjoying some exciting topics and activities.

We started off learning about "ourselves" and the children have just finished a topic on Harvest and "The little red hen".

If you want to find out what topics are planned for this year then please see the information sheets below.

We have also attached a timetable so that you can see when PE days are and when we have Jo Jingles etc.

In English this term the children will be doing lots of speaking and listening. We will enjoy lots of stories and songs and this in turn will lead to writing. It is important that the children realise that writing has a purpose and we encourage the children to write in whatever form they want to at first. When they start to learn the letters in our Phonics sessions, they soon realise that writing is made up of letter shapes. We try to make writing exciting and purposeful. Alongside this they will also learn about letter formation and handwriting.

In Maths the children will be learning about the numbers to 10. They will be counting, reading, writing, ordering and partitioning the numbers. They will also be solving practical problems using their developing mathematical understanding. We try to weave maths into our topics and make it practical, thought provoking and fun. The children also will learn about shape, space and measures through activities such as our conker hunt, baking our bread and making shape castles at Halloween.

You will receive a homework folder every Friday which will give you more information about what the children will be learning the following week and how to support at home.

Please ensure your child has their PE Kit in school at all times and also brings their book bag every day.

If you would like to talk to any of the teachers in EYFS, then please  don't hesitate to approach us at the beginning or end of the day. If you need a longer session then we will endeavor to find a mutually convenient time.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Chafer and Mrs Walker.
