The term has already begun and we have started our new topic - A  European Adventure! We are learning about the key geographical features of Europe, exploring countries across the continent from mountains to seas. Class 2 have already used atlases and Google Earth! Some children have already bought in some amazing Show and Tells, so thank you very much!

Class 2 will have spelling, punctuation and grammar sessions. This term, we are studying 'The Boy Who Biked The World' by Alaistair Humphreys. Class 2 have written letters to Tom (the main character in the book) and are beginning to draft their own Limerick poems!

Throughout the term, the children will also have a go at:

  • Character descriptions
  • Setting descriptions
  • Newspaper writing
  • Narrative writing
  • Lots of drama!smiley

The children will have arithmetic starters for every session and will develop their knowledge of times tables. Class 2 have been working on Place Value and have already done some great investigations! Throughout the Autumn term, the children will also be working with shape, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. There will also be time for TT Rockstars - the children have their logins in passwords stuck in their times tables books and encouraged to practice at home as much as they can.

A Few Remindersblush

- Please ensure that pupil absence is rung into school before 9am when the registers are closed.

- Thank you for ensuring children are on the playground from 8.45 and in class by 8.50am.

- Please ensure that your child has their PE kit and reading pack (containing their spelling book, times tables book and reading record/book) everyday.

In Class 2, we would love the children to be reading to an adult everyday, please can you sign their reading records to let us know you have heard them!

- Spellings should be practised at least 3 times a week, with a test on Friday.

- Times tables should be practised at least 3 times a week. In their times tables books, they can pick which times table they would like to practise, or the children can ask for my guidance on this.

- I will issue any extra homework in their homework books, which will be marked in school.

- Any concerns that children may have about homework will be more than happily supported in schoolsmiley

Keep your eye on ‘weduc’ as this has all notices and diary dates you need for the term.

Spring Term 2018

Year 3 and Year 4

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our Autumn newsletter. We have lots planned for the Autumn term and we welcome your continued help in working in partnership to support your child’s learning.

We ask that children read with an adult at home regularly and that this is recorded in their green reading record. Your child will also read at least once every week with the Mrs Allison, this may be individually or in a guided group, and may also read with Mrs Poole.

Children will have a weekly spelling test and these words will be given at the start of each half term. Children will have chance to practice them during the week but we would welcome your support in reinforcing this at home. Our topics for this term include the following…

History –

The Vikings

RE –

Science - Changing State. Solids, liquids and gases

Art –

Printing and Collage

French –

All about me!

Maths –

Number and Place Value

The children will need to have their PE kits in school and we request that all belongings are labelled. We have specialist sport coaches who will be teaching PE and providing extra-curricular activities. In music, we also have the wonderful opportunity of learning a musical instrument – we will let you know the details of this in a separate letter. Thank you for ensuring children are on the playground from 8.45am and ready to line up and start school at 8.50am.

Our feature author this term is Roald Dahl but we will be looking at several genres of writing including poetry and non-fiction texts.

Please use the green reading record as a home school communication book if you have any questions or information that I should be aware of.

Yours Faithfully,

Mrs Allison and Mrs Poole
