Our topic for the spring term is 'Once Upon a Time'. This is a Art, D& T and Science based topic.
This term we will be writing character and setting descriptions. The children will be focusing on fiction texts. They will be looking at the language used in fiction texts and the common themes.
Phonics, spelling, punctuation and grammar are timetabled daily. Year 1 will be covering the Phase 5 Phonic Curriculum and Year 2's will be working on applying their GPS skills.
We continue to have a reading corner in the classroom for children to enjoy and create time to read books from a range of genres.
In Maths, we will work from the White Rose scheme of work. The Year 1 children will be covering place value with numbers to 50 and then will be looking at Multiplication and Division. The year 2 children will also be working on the topic of Multiplication and Division. They will apply the skills they have learnt to problem solving and reasoning situations.
The children will be completing a range of outdoor, practical and written activities during their daily maths lessons.
Year 2 children will be tested on their 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables so, please continue to use the Times Tables Rockstars app.
RE – The children will be looking at stories from the Bible.
PSHCE – The children will be looking friendship.
ICT – The children will learning to write and debug algorithms.
P.E - The children will have weekly Tennis (Wednesday) and Dance (Thursday) sessions. These will be held by professional coaches.
Art – The children will be using a range of art skills to create fairy tale images. .
History - This term the children will be looking at the History of Castles and Homes. We will also be looking closely at the history of homes in Seagrave.
Music- Emma Burn will be taking the music sessions this term.
Science - This term the children will be exploring materials and their properties.
Please ensure that your child has P.E kit in school at all times. The afternoon P.E sessions are on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
I aim to encourage the children to use the role play inside the classroom.
Homework will be given out on a Friday to be bought back into school on a Wednesday. These will consist of spellings and Maths activities, which consolidate the weeks work. Please ensure that your child completes the work and gets the homework back on time.
Spelling tests will take place on a Friday. Spelling sheets must be bought back into school on a Friday.
It is an expectation the children read at home regularly.
Please complete your child’s reading journal if they have read at home.
A signature is needed from an adult to show this has been done.
Please also use the Reading Journals to communicate with me - I will read them daily and I am happy to help in anyway.
I aim to make the children’s KS1 journey enjoyable and fun.
