I hope you all had a great summer.
I am looking forward to working with my new year 1 and 2 children.
Our topic for autumn term 1 is 'On the Farm’. This is a science based topic which will be focusing closely on animals and their needs.
During this term we will be covering descriptive writing (using our senses), Diary writing, information texts and instruction writing.
We will be basing our writing on our topic of On the Farm.
Phonics, spelling, punctuation and grammar are timetabled daily.
We continue to have a reading corner in the classroom for children to enjoy and create time to read books from a range of genres.
In Maths, we will work from the White Rose scheme of work. The children will start the term working with number and place value.
The children will be covering Number, Place value, Addition and Subtraction.
Year 1’s will be covering numbers up to 20 and Year 2’s will be looking at numbers up to 100.
The children will be representing numbers, comparing and ordering numbers and looking at one more and one less. Year 2’s will also be looking at counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10.
RE – The children will be looking and religion and the family.
PSHCE – The children will be looking at developing a healthy and safer lifestyle.
ICT – The children will learn the basic requirements to use Microsoft Word and Google.
P.E - Mr Green (our PE specialist) and I will continue to take the children for these lessons.
Art – The children will be looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy during this term.
Music- Exploring beats and different tempos. The children will also be listening to and responding to a range of noises which are created by farm animals.
Please ensure that your child has P.E kit in school at all times. The afternoon P.E sessions are on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon.
I aim to encourage the children to use the role play inside the classroom and activities which are set up outdoors.
Homework will be given out on a Friday to be bought back into school on a Wednesday. These will consist of spellings and Maths activities, which consolidate the weeks work. Please ensure that your child completes the work and gets the homework back on time.
It is an expectation the children read at home regularly.
Please complete your child’s reading journal if they have read at home.
A signature is needed from an adult to show this has been done.
Please also use the Reading Journals to communicate with me - I will read them daily and I am happy to help in anyway.
I aim to make the children’s KS1 journey enjoyable and fun.
Thank you for your continued support. I am very excited and look forward to the new term.
Miss Mohammad J
