I hope you all had a 'Happy Easter' and feel relaxed and refreshed!
Our topic for summer term 1 'Take a trip around Europe' . This is a geography based study. We will base our study investigating rivers and streams, getting a feel for their forms, locations and activity .
Our main focus is on reading starting with the novel 'There is a boy in the girls toilets' this is guided reading text one of many that we will cover during the summer term.
We will be looking at explanation/instructional text which leads nicely into our grammar focus-layout devices such as headings, columns, tables in structured text.
Spelling ,punctuation and grammar are timetabled daily.
In Maths, we will work from the White Rose scheme of work. The children will be working through measurement-converting units. Kilograms and kilometre milligrams and millilitres etc.
The year 6 children will also focus on ratio, algebra and translation and have added booster sessions to get them ready for their up and coming SAT's
All children will continue to have daily arithmetic starter work to keep the four operations fresh in their heads.
Geography - research rivers in Europe.
PSHCE/RE - cross-curricular approach revelation stories combined
ICT - coding/multi media
Science - Light - looking at microscopes and telescopes and explaining how they work.
P.E - Mr Green (our PE specialist) will continue to take the children for these lessons.
Art - Henri Rousseau-learn about the artist and his style creating jungle scenes
Music- Mr G will continue his music lessons on a Monday morning with years4/5- please ensure your child brings their instrument to school on that day!
P.E will take place on a Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons this term. Please ensure that your child has appropriate kit in school on these days.
Homework will be given out on a Friday to be bought back into school on a Wednesday. These will consist of spellings and Maths activities, that consolidate the weeks work, Please ensure that your child completes the work and gets the homework back on time.
Year 6 children will be given SAT's papers to help them prepare for the tests in May - and for parents to assist at home too.
A reminder that Monday after school 3.30-4.45 SATs booster groups will continue and I hope that all year 6 children will be able to attend - chocolates and drinks will be provided!!
It is an expectation that children read every night and fill in their own diary entries.
A signature is needed from an adult to show this has been done. Children will stay in and read at break time if not signed.
In the Foxes Class I endeavour to encourage the children to be independent learners. This will support them in their next step on to Secondary school. My aim is to enable a smooth transition - giving them responsibility to remember equipment etc will help this.
Thank you for your continued support.
