HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL!
Our topic for Spring term 1 is Our Changing World . This is a science and geography based study. We are looking at evolution and inheritance in science. In geography we are understanding the journey of rivers from the source to the mouth!
We are developing our understanding of 'old English' literature with William Shakespeare. We will learn about him and the history behind Shakespeare. We will be reading and writing about his plays with a focus on 'Macbeth' and 'A Mid Summer Nights Dream'. Throughout this wonderful adventure we will be continuing to develop our spelling-punctuation and grammar. We will have a focus on precising longer passages and using cohesion within and across paragraphs. We look forward to presenting Macbeth to you!
Guided Reading continues weekly with a guided lesson and follow up lesson to assist children in their English.
In Maths, we will work from the White Rose scheme of work. The children will be working through the four operations. They will be developing their skills with a main focus on fractions. The children will be understanding how to work out arithmetic calculations mentally and continue to explain and use their reasoning skills

P.E will take place on a Tuesday and Friday afternoons and the Year 6 children this term on a Monday morning will be working with Mrs Woodward to prepare for SAT's. Please ensure that your children have appropriate kit in school on these days.
Homework will be given out on a Friday to be bought back into school on a Wednesday. These will consist of spellings and Maths activities, that consolidate the weeks work, Please ensure that your child completes the work and gets the homework back on time.
Year 6 children will be given SAT's booklets to help them prepare for the tests in May - and for parents to assist at home too. The children may also bring homework home at different times in the lead up to the tests to help meet their individual needs..
It is an expectation that children read every night and fill in their own diary entries.
A signature is needed from an adult to show this has been done. Children will stay in and read at break time if not signed.
In the Foxes Class I endeavour to encourage the children to be independent learners. This will support them in their next step on to Secondary school. My aim is to enable a smooth transition - giving them responsibility to remember equipment etc will help this.
Thank you for your continued support.
