CLASS 3 NEWSLETTER - September 6th 2009
Welcome to Class 3!
As it is the start of a new year I thought that it may be of interest to you to find out about the routines of the class and for me to let you know what topics we will be covering.
Areas of Study
The main focus of our work in class this term will be around the topic of the Ancient Greeks. We will be exploring Ancient Greek history and Geography and through Literacy looking at Greek Myths and Legends. In Science we will be looking at sound. Through Art the children will be studying People in Action with particular emphasis on sporting activities. RE and Music will both be taught by Miss Beard on a Wednesday afternoon. The RE topic for this term is Worship and the Community.
P.E.
Children will need to have full P.E. kit in school at all times. This consists of both an indoor and outdoor kit. Indoor kit is t-shirt, shorts and plimsolls (plus socks if your child wears tights). Outdoor kit is tracksuit top and bottoms and spare trainers (ones that you don’t mind getting muddy!)
Homework
Your child needs to read on a daily basis, approximately 15 minutes. This reading can be either independent or ‘listened to’ reading. Your child should ask you to sign the homework planner once they have completed this. In addition, your child should practice their weekly spellings and their times tables daily. Spelling tests will usually be on a Monday.
Dance
We are fortunate enough to have enlisted the help of Robyn, our dance teacher again this term. She will be working with the children on a Wednesday afternoon. I am also hoping that, as with last year, she will be able to provide her expertise with the Christmas performance.
Contact
If you need to speak to me about your child I am always available at the end of the school day. Please pop into Class 3.
