Welcome To Class 3
Summer Term 2017
Our topic for this term is 'Hunters and Gatherers' - this is a history based topic that will incorporate English and maths.
We are working hard to ensure that children in Year Six have the confidence to sit their SATs tests the week beginning Monday 8th May to Thursday 11th. We have been giving children one to one tuition as well as small group work and they are becoming confident in how the SATs papers are worded and the preparation has been extremely beneficial for them. On the testing days, I will ensure that they feel supported and will have bags of chocolate at the ready for when they finish. They may bring in a soft toy mascot to give them reassurance.
Year five will continue looking at shape and measure and the thread of number and calculations will continue until the end of term.
SATs preparation continues as above. The children will be focussing on story writing, looking at modern classic novels. Writing is teacher assessed and so focussing on regular punctuation and grammar is essential.
What else are we doing? well ....
Topic work will continue as well as extra revision up to SATs
History - Early stone age - looking at how people lived then
PSHCE- Sex education (before this is taught there will be parent information about this )
MFL - French - holidays and our bodies
Science - The human body revision
P.E - Atheltics
Homework will be given out on a Friday to be bought back into school on a Wednesday. Work will incorporate concepts we are learning that week.
As has been expected this year and in the previous terms, children read every night and fill in their own diary entries by writing a short sentence or two about what they have read that night. A signature is needed from an adult to show this ha been done.
I want to make the children independent learners and responsible for their own learning. Please can you make sure that you encourage your children to do homework, read regularly and have any equipment they need in school at the correct time.
Thank you for your continued support.
