Welcome Back Class Three
Autumn Term 2017
Welcome back! To my new year 5s and my returning Year 6s. I am really excited to see you all soon and to begin our new school year with lots of exciting topics!
Our topic for the Autumn Term is Exploration and Discovery. This is a history/geography based study. We are looking at the Indus Valley, and our topic will continue to be developed in our english lessons.
We will continue to have discrete grammar and punctuation lessons which will develop our writing.
Guided reading will take place weekly.
We shall begin with non-chronological reports and following this, we will be looking at short stories from other cultures.
In Maths, we will work from the White Rose scheme of work. We always begin a new term looking predominantly at numbers up to one million and securing our understanding of place value, then moving onto the four operations.
Children will develop their reasoning skills throughout these concepts.

New Reading / Homework Diaries for Class 3!
I am constantly striving to make the Year 5 & 6 children independent. With this in mind, I have bought brand new diaries to start off the New Year. These will work like previous diaries but have a lot more detail to them. As I am sure you can appreciate, if lost there will be a charge; So please encourage your children to take care of them!
It is an expectation that children read every night and fill in their own diary entries; To write a short sentence or two about what they have read.
A signature is needed from an adult to show this has been done. Children will stay in and read at break time if not signed.
Please can you make sure that you encourage your child to do homework, read regularly and have any equipment they need in school at the correct times.
Thank you for your continued support.
